Once upon a time building masses of links to a site would improve natural search rankings in Google without a hitch. It hasn’t been just that simple for quite some time. But links are still an important role in how Google judges and indexes a site. Two fantastic tools in researching and analysing the current links to your site are Open Site Explorer and Ahrefs.com. I prefer the later.

Need to check your competition? Need to ensure no one is linking to broken pages? Thinking more links from a greater variety of domains will improve your natural search ranking? Both tools are great for a more detailed insight, however, without paying for a membership you’ll find yourself stuck with only a 3 reports a day allowance on Open Site Explorer. Ahrefs.com isn’t free either – check out their plans & pricing here.
